Sasha Paw Charm

Description

I forgot something for size reference. :C Oh well, it can fit in the palm of your hand in case you were wondering.

My first try at one of these, harder than I expected it to be, and quite frustrating. Turned out pretty good nonetheless. I love the pawpads. c:

I saw these paw charms on FA by Icono, and they were gorgeous! The commissions were listed by PayPal, but I don’t have a PayPal so I asked if cash order would be okay because that’s the best I can do but he never replied to me, so I guess that’s a no then. The commissions where 6$ a piece, plus shipping which wasn’t bad. Since I couldn’t pay him to make me a few, I took it on for myself and I made my own.

These buggers are much harder than they look to make, and that’s coming from someone that has experience in working with clay! It’s not just that it’s small and detailed, trying out how to shape the toes and affix them on without mashing up the base. That was the hardest part, the rest wasn’t so bad. My Sasha paw was the first I made, then the snow leopard and Ay was last. God after working with hard polymer clay for two days straight, my hands are still bruised and sore.

I won’t do commissions for these because it doesn’t seem fair to Icono. He said that the paws are not to be replicated. I don’t know if that means he won’t make that particular design again because it’s someone’s character or he doesn’t want other people making similar paw styles. Now technically I never ordered one so it wasn’t replicated directly. I used references of pictures of the paw charms and real cat paws. Also, technically he wasn’t the first to make paw charms like these and he isn’t the sole creator of them either. Still, I will only make these as gifts, because I’d feel bad if I became the new competition. These are a pain [literally] to make right now and I still have a lot of learning to do anyway about sculpting. After my hands feel better, maybe I’ll make some more.

Done with:
Sculpey black and yellow/orange clay
Black paint
Jewelry wire
Sculpey glaze

Time to completion:
About 5 hours for sculpting because I had a few…problems, 20 minutes for baking, 30 minutes for cool down and painting, and another 2 hours for glazing.
